Open Prize Meeting 2014

Sun shade for shootersWe had a fine hot day for the 2014 Open prize meet with changeable winds and  temperatures in the low thirties. The wind changed during the day both in strength and direction with a change at one time of 180 degrees. Shooters were protected from the sun with shade covers across the full width of the 500 meter mound. Many shooters also put up their own shade devices behind the mound for protection when not shooting.

Many club members helped in the clubhouse by collating score sheets, serving food and drinks (the steak sangos were delicious), registering shooters, and many other tasks that contributed to the smooth running of the event. Tables and chairs were arranged behind the clubhouse Shooters put up their own shadewith additional covers proving welcome shade for shooter and visitors who were having lunch or just a cup of tea between stages.

A record number of 77 competitors attended from clubs near and far including those from the Hunter Valley District Rifle Association such as Cessnock, BHP and West Wallsend; Lined up for steak sangosAberdeen in the Mudgee DRA; Bathurst and Katoomba and Lithgow in the Blue Mountains DRA; Port Macquarie in the Mid North Coast DRA; Nowra in the Southern NSW DRA; Orange and Lyndhurst in the Central Western DRA and of course many clubs from the North Shore and Metropolitan DRAs. Old friendships were renewed with shooters who only see each other a few times a year at events like this one; and new friendships commenced.FStd Winning Team member Chris
