Gosford District Rifle Club Open Prize Meeting 18/10/2015
Grey and threatening skies did not deter the field of 63 competitors who attended the Gosford District Rifle Club Open Prize Meeting. Thankfully the rain held off during the entire competition.
The gazebo’s over the firing point proved popular again this year and with all matches shot at 500m, there was no need to move gear up the range.
Some competitors travelled long distances to attend, they came from Coonabarabran, Nowra, Lithgow and Aberdeen. The club was grateful for the support of our event.
Rob Avery from Cessnock triumphed on the day in Target Rifle, just three centres ahead of Mark Buchanan of Roseville. A regular visitor to Gosford from West Wallsend, Grasshopper Rex Waite, showed some form to take top spot in the B Grade TR. Justin Pogson from Hornsby RSL won the C Grade TR.
F Standard A was won by the ever smiling Gary Faulkner from Roseville, three centres ahead of Eva Patrick from Mosman-Neutral Bay. Our man from Head Office, John Leask of North Sydney took top place in F Standard B while the F Open was taken out by local shooter Michael Singleton of Gosford
In a steadily growing field of FTR competitors, David Avery from Cessnock top scored, just one point ahead of Dennis Smith of Hornsby RSL.
Top Lady TR was Gail Roberts of Gosford and Top Lady F Class was Eva Patrick of Mosman Neutral Bay. Top Junior in TR was Angus Martin of Roseville, F Standard was Mariette Rigby of Gosford and F Open was Alison Rigby of Railway & Tram
In the Canteen, our small band of workers, Jill Brennan, Kim Hopwood, BBQ Bob Stanborough, and Stuart Scott, fed the hungry hordes and quenched their thirst. The scotch fillet steak sandwiches were very popular.
Our perennial and efficient statistician, Karen Boskos, did a marvellous job churning out results in rapid time while RO Mark Rea kept things running smoothly by supervising proceedings at the mound.
The Major prizes were presented by the Club Patron, Kathy Smith MP, State Member for Gosford. As a young girl Kathy used to shoot those wonderful old .303 rifles.
